hosting and your data
Your name on every account, from day one.
Hosting, domain, repository and third-party accounts are opened in your name before the first line ships. The code transfers to you on the final payment. Where your data lives is written down for your project, not assumed.
Named for each project, before the work starts.
Every project names where each kind of data lives, and the app follows the rules of the zone where your data must live. For a Quebec business that is Law 25: the location is written down for you, and nothing fires in the browser before consent.
- Site or app
- Hosted in an account in your name; the region is chosen for where your data must live
- Database
- A managed database in your account; its region is named in writing
- Files and uploads
- Object storage in your account, under the same rule
- Backups
- Where the database and the files are, never on a laptop
- Email and forms
- The provider is named; what a visitor types stays in your database
- Analytics
- Nothing fires before consent
Opened in your name before the first line ships.
We work inside your accounts as a member you can remove, never the other way around. Providers bill you directly, so no renewal depends on us, and nothing has to be handed back later.
- Domain
- Registered in your name, at a registrar you can log into
- Hosting
- Your account; we are a member you can remove
- Repository
- Your account, from the first week
- Third-party accounts
- Payments, maps, email, AI providers: yours, on your card
- Renewals
- Billed to you by the provider, so nothing expires because we were not asked
Yours on the final payment, readable from the first week.
The code transfers to you when the final invoice is paid. Until then it sits in a repository in your account, where you can read it. Afterwards you may hand it to another developer, or back to us, at any time.
- Transfer
- On the final payment
- Licence
- Yours outright; no per-seat fee, no subscription to keep it running
- Another developer
- Can take over from the repository and the manual
Every app ships with a manual.
A PDF and a docs page, with every app: what it does, how to run it, where each account is, and what to do when something breaks. Thirty days of free fixes after delivery, then hourly or on a monthly plan.
- Format
- A PDF and a docs page
- Contents
- Where each account is, how to run it, what to do when it breaks
- Fixes
- Free for 30 days after delivery, then hourly or a monthly plan
What you must hold in your own name, and how to get it back.
If someone else holds your site today, ask for these, in this order. Each item is yours to hold whether or not we ever work together. If any is refused, start with the domain: with the domain you can rebuild everything else.
- 01 Domain
- The registrar login and the transfer code; the registrant contact is you
- 02 DNS
- Where the records are managed, and a login to it
- 03 Hosting
- The account the site runs in, with you as owner, not guest
- 04 Code
- The repository transferred to your account, or a full export
- 05 Database
- A login, and a fresh export of the data
- 06 Admin
- The site’s own admin login, able to add and remove users
- 07 Third-party keys
- Payments, email, maps, AI: the accounts, not only the keys
- 08 Passwords
- Change every one once the accounts are yours
Bring the site as it stands.
Thirty minutes. What you hold today, what is missing, then a plan. The call is free; you owe nothing until you accept a quote.
